Beauties, Tony. Extra clean and crisp shots. One of the cleanest post I've seen of yours.

Hey Tony I jumped in a bit early before............I'm back!

That is one heck of a head shot on #1 as well as #6. I like what you are doing but importantly do you like it I don't think they can get much better than #3 and #7, just lovely color and you are killing the BG's in a v.good way sir

Wonderful shots Tony. I must say they are a pleasure to view. I went back and looked and looked again and again. What did you do differently in the PP?

excellent work tony. the sharpness, exposure and contrast are spot on. i do not detect any noise in the background. super clean and sharp just the way i like it. out of curiousity, could you post the original processed pics to see the difference?

Thanks, Karl. I like my PP method so far, but am always willing to learn more and better techniques.

Thanks. Pileated is not trained and was about ten feet away.

I like to use my Harry Potter Invisibility Cloak when possible, such as with this wild Bald Eagle at about twenty feet.

Tony: I'm not at all a bird photographer or a devotee of wildlife shooting in general. It's just not something I do. I make a living shooting interiors. Don't think I've ever shot anything as long as 400mm!

Still, as photography goes ... meaning photography in general, ie subject matter, technique, clarity of purpose, bringing something to light in a meaningful way, etc. ... I think I'm pretty qualified to be able to pass judgment and state an opinion, and that opinion is this:

This series is a surely a first-rate representation of great photography (not just of birds), of the importance of sheer photographic skill and of the minimal importance of the gear itself (in this case a Canon 20D; not sure what the 400mm lens might be). Your photos enabled me to see these beautiful creatures in a new light and with a new sense of their relation to the world at large. Their expressions alone are priceless. I doubt I'll ever look at a bird again in the same way.

Thanks,
Steve
