I searched for "actor headshots" and came up with a few useful threads, but nothing quite on the same situation, so I'd appreciate any advice! I'm trying to figure out how much to charge local university theatre students for actor headshots. My girlfriend is a senior in the theatre program and apparently her professors and fellow students loved the head shots I took of her enough that they've inquired about pricing. Most of them only have shots that a photo student took for $25 a pop, and apparently they aren't that great. So far I've done a couple free shoots, but I think the work I provide is good and would like to figure out a fair price.
I couldn't find any headshot specific pricing in my area, but session fees for portrait photography ranges from really low, around $100 plus require print packages, to around $400. I also know from my day job at an advertising agency that commercial day rates range from $900 to $1400 or so, not that commercial pricing has much bearing on actor headshots.
For now, I've been thinking that $250 would be good. My previous shoots have lasted between 2 and 4 hours with a couple different settings/outfits, and at the end I gave them a zip file of the best shots along with a couple 8x10s and some 4x6 proofs (they did pay a small fee for printing). I don't mind if some balk at the price, there's always the $25 snapshot, but I'd hate to be so overpriced as to not be in the running at all. Any thoughts from you more experienced folk will be greatly appreciated.
