increase ISO and decrease aperture, is it good choice?

i am using a 50 1.4 lens on a 5d

this is a event, i only bring my shoe mount flash
I know my 50 1.4 is sharper a f2 or even sharper at f2.8

but this indoor event is very dark, if I use f2, i have to increase iso from ISO400 to ISO800. De-noise high iso pics can also make my photo looks soft

so is it a good idea to increase iso and decrease aperture under such circumstance?

thanks to any ideas

btw, i am photoing ppl on that event, so big aperture is not a problem here

5d and iso 800 is not a problem at all
correctly exposed is practically noiseless

Low light and deep shadow detail or black is a worst case scenario. One datapoint: on such occasions, I've used a PS filter to remove noise and then applied the USM to re-sharpen. The difference between f1.4 at ISO 400 and f2 at ISO 800 with extra PS is one I'd call a flip of the coin. Others may easily and fairly disagree.

One of the big advantages of digital photography is extra testing burns only time and electrons. I suggest you test both setting combinations in a similarly illuminated test environment. That way you'll know which *you* prefer.
