Hello, I am interested in using a manual OM zuiko 2.0 35 mm lens on a Canon body and would like to know about its performance with particular interest in a) wide open, b) corners when stopped down. The lens would be a nice compact walk-around toll (toy?). The wide zuikos appear to be rather capable lenses. So, how about the this one?
Thanks for your input.
This is a great lens, perhaps the best of the fast 35s short of the 35 1.4 EF Canon or 35 1.4 ziess. (I have a spare one if you are looking for one, feel free to email/PM about that). I've compared it with the vivitar 35 f/1.9 and the Minolta Rokkor 35 f/1.8 and in many ways like the Oly the best. (though the other 2 are good alternatives and often cheaper)
I find it to be great wide open and even better stopped down, certainly way better than the Canon EF 35/f2. The zuikos in general are great lenses, esp. the stuff from 55mm and wider.
As you can see, the 35 Leica R f2 has softer bokeh.
Shots done on tripod, only exchanged and focused lenses. The variation in "bottle size" is due to lenses not being perfectly 35mm. A test like this proves a known fact that some lenses are tighter or wider than their actual supposed length.
I focused on the small text around bottle label, (both very sharp) donīt know why it smears bottom of bottle so differently. No variation in physical relationship between camera, lens and subject. It kind of doesnīt make sense, but I swear, nothing moved. Maybe there is some difference in the way the glass is positioned inside the lens, changing the DoF, as the foreground sharpness is different.
