Is there a P&S with video that doesn't so readily blow highlights?
I'm constantly getting images with those annoying vertical stripes of white and I'd really like something that didn't blow out that way. I don't mind blowing out white where it's actually white, but to blow the entire vertical strip like that doesn't make sense to me.
I believe this has to do with the fact that they use CCD-based sensors and that it's related to the way light spills over into adjacent pixels as the sensor offloads data when capturing the image.
I've noticed this with my 1D when shooting at high shutter speeds with bright highlights. The slower the shutter, the less the effect.
What I'm seeing is several to many 1-pixel-wide vertical strips of white the run the entire height of the image. Like viewing the image through white, light-emitting prison bars.
I don't recall it as much from snapshots, but that could be because I deleted them. I do see the effect on the camera's LCD too, so would presume it's anytime there's a bright light and the difference between dark & light is beyond the sensor's capacity. For example, I can always get it to happen at night with christmas tree lights.
