So, this was a last minute surprise session.
The groom called and basically said "hey, we're in town on our honeymoon and I want pics of my new wife in her dress on the beach". The only time they could do it was right before noon though, so I was a little worried about all that direct sunlight. Well, turns out I think I love the direct sunlight now! Lol!! Sunset turns everyone red and orange and the light quickly disappearing ends up with half my stuff underexposed. So, I'm in love with noon on the beach in a white dress now
I LOVE this series...4 and 8 are winners for me. I know exactly what you mean with fears and frustrations concerning noon at the beach! Where did you shoot?
My only nits are:
--some of the photos seem a little bright/overexposed, especially #1.
--Also, 6 and 13 could use more contrast.
--Posing: In #1, don't just place the hand on the hip, have her put it there like she normally does. This pose looks "placed." Bring the thumb behind the hip and you'll see how much more natural it looks. Also, in # 12, I would suggest putting his thumb in his pocket with fingers curled under and her hand behind her or on her hip to make it look a little more natural.
Thanks for the cc Daniel
Looking at it again, I think something went seriously awry in post with #6, I'm going to go back and check it again from the original any start over. I was editing these at 4 in the morning, lol!
The super white sand is both a blessing and a curse. But, learning how to work with it is definitely something I have to master because 80% of my business is on the beach.
Cathy, I live in NW Florida (Destin area). We did this session at a local state park. Thankfully the temps warmed up to about 65-70.
Thanks for the posing suggestions Cathy. I still have a rough time with posing properly, I need all the help I can get. I kept trying to get her to relax her arm. The wedding was a week earlier though and I think the photog from her wedding did pretty stiff posing, so she was channeling that.
Love that area of the state! It's a bit different with a south beach rather than a west or east beach -- the sun is completely different. Were you using flash in these? I have a ridiculously hard time with noon sun here in South Florida. I'm pretty sure some off-camera flash would make my pictures much better.
Nope Deb, no flash. Well... I take that back. I used it in maybe 10 or 15 of 265ish shots. I thought I had extra batteries in my bag, but I didn't and it was getting to the end of the charge (not recycling quickly), so I didn't bother with it.
I always wonder what its like to shoot on an east or west beach! There are a few people who claim there's a location with a west beach I think, but I can't find it for the life of me. I've google mapped the place to death and I just don't see where it could be.
Helps that the couple aren't squinty people. Some folks simply could not go on a beach at high noon and not have watery squinty eyes with the sunglasses off.
I seem to have worse problems with squinting at sunset! Maybe it's the fact that the sun sets in a different direction here? They were squinting a bit, but I just tell them to close their eyes and relax them and I will let them know when to open them.
I like these a LOT however I think it would have been good to tone down some of the exposures a bit (post work would do as well) and flash them a bit for some of them with the harsher shadows
Great sky. I like 3 and 5 the best. You got nice fill from the sand reflecting. Except for 12, I see lots of detail on the dress, I like the brightness of the images, it suits them and the location.
Overall nicely done. Especially considering the high noon soon. In general I like the very natural but punchy post-processing. But I agree with some of the others that some of the images are a little hot on exposure.
