p.1 #5 · ThinkTank Digital Holster 20 | |
I have the 20, but rarely use it, and much prefer using the TT "skin" chimpcage. With the bottom of the Chimpcage not extended, I can slide the 40D and 17-40 in sideways. With the bottom extended, it will accept the 40D with the 70-200 f4. The Chimpcage is a lot more compressible than the holster, and is much quicker to open and close, since it's top is a velcro flap, and not zippered, as is the holster. If I'm hiking or bike riding, I hang the cage from the front straps of my backpack, and drop the camera in it, but leave the camera's strap looped over my neck. If I'm not shooting, the camera stays in the "cage", fully supported by the backpack straps, instead of my neck, but is still ready for instant use. I use the "skin" belt as well, for times when I want the stuff on my waist. I often keep the camera in the "cage" in front of me, and lenses, flash, etc. in the beckpack hooked onto the skin belt. If I stop to take photos, and get serious about lens changes, filters, etc., I simply reach into the backpack, pull out the belt with whatever I have attached to it, and click it aroung my waist. The "skin" series weighs next to nothing, and is super compressible. The holster is heavier, more bulky, takes more time to get into, but does offer more protection.
TT has a cash back return policy. You could order both the holster and the skin cage, and keep whichever you like. If you go for the cage and the belt, also consider the skin small lens pouch. It's perfect for fitting a 580, 2 pocket wizards, and a Flip-It. It's even better than their dedicated flash pouch. It's no bigger than the flash pouch, maybe even slightly smaller, but because of it's dimensions, everything fits better. It'll also take a 70-200 f4. A 2.8 will fit, but not as nicely. Also great for carrying a water bottle.
Something to think about.
