p.1 #1 · Gitzo 2531 too tall...Need opinions on my solution
Well I tried out my Gitzo 2531 with the Markins M10 and Kirk plate. I love the setup but...with the center column fully down and the legs fully extended, the tripod is two inches too tall (I'm 5'7") Since I don't want to have to adjust all three bottom legs each time unless necessary, I may use tape (won't be visible since it will be inside the middle tube) to equally limit the extension of the lower legs. Is there anything wrong with this idea?

I might just mark the legs with a Sharpie or some other means than tape. You wouldn't want the tape peeling off and getting jammed inside the next largest leg section. I actually tried this with my monopod, and the Sharpie ink was easily removed with a bit of alcohol.

I had the same problem with my Dynatrans. I just run the bottom leg section all the way out and then shorten it by one thumb length. Works perfectly. Of course, if I lose my thumb, I'm in trouble.

You will want to tripod to be this tall some day when you are on a slope or need to work looking up (arizona slot canyons for example). Dcains and runamuck had good solutions, both of which work for me.

I like the Sharpie idea. I may make a couple of small marks with different color sharpies for the heights I use most often. I also tried the thumb/finger spacing approach and it worked just fine.
