Ok, the older 2.5 version of the 28mm Rokkor seems to do really well in the Modern Photo test Ed posted. I saw this one here and thought I would give it a shot:

Now a conversion question. I don't notice the normal screws on the rear such as are on the 58 1.2. How do I go about getting the rear mount off and where do I screw the new mount into?

The base looks like the MC50/1.4s with that lever sticking thru the silver ring. Don't know what that's about but it looks similiar to this MC50/1.4:

nice looking example you got there. price was decent too. THe little side lever is a stop-down preview lever I think. It can be safely removed.

Conversion looks like it would be similar to 21/2.8, 35 1.8, 50 1.4 et al. not too bad probably. Let us know how it goes!

Thanks Ed. Looking at what PhotoMaximum did with the 21 2.8 with the aid of the community is a huge help. The one thing I did not see, and is perhaps very obvious to everyone but me, is where to start as far as the tare down. Do I begin by removing the screws immediately around the rear element on the innermost black plate or perhaps the small screws on side of the silver ring or that big flathead screw on the aperture ring? If I can just figure out where to start, I think I will be fine.

On the stock lens, the silver ring with the 3 radial set screws, when loosened, can be removed to revel the 4 screws that attach the back/aperture mechanics from the lens body. That should get you started.

Thanks Jim. Thats a big help. Now I just have to wait on the lens to arrive!

JIm is right. Also, don't remove the 3 black screws that hold on the black plate around the rear element - those don't need to come off and they are a biatch to get back in since they are so tiny.

Thanks Ed. I will update this thread once I get into the conversion process. I will be converting to the Sony A mount so things might get interesting.
