How can you get so close? Every time I approach or get out of my vehicle - off they go! It's frustrating. I have some great shots of a pilated woodpecker, but don't have the Image Upload feature.
Nice series Roger and I think I like the last two portrait mode ones with the last best as for you showing a bit more of the tree. Nice looking red tail

Geeeeez it sounds like you need to slow down. A couple of things normally cause wildlife to move.
1. They see movement
2. They smell something they don't like
3. They hear something unusual.
I you stay downwind and slow down you should have a better chance. When I have folks out in the woods I ask them to move forward 5 yards as slow as they can. I almost always tell them to slow that down by at least 75%.
