Yeah. I'm leaving on Tuesday for the holiday for a week. With my luck it will ship Tuesday morning. That is if my pre-order makes the first shipment ...
Guess my house sitter will have a nice 5D Mark II to play with.
Sony's been pushin' their crappy sensors/camera all over. My retailer even though he admits Sony dlsr suck HAD TO put on a big window display because Sony paid good € to do so He said he'd still recommend a Canon/Nikon dslr 1st though!

Sony sensors are hardly crap since Nikon sources all theirs through Sony, I am sure you might have heard of the D300, D700, and D3.
They are most definitely manufactured by Sony. Nikon is being cute as to not confuse their great camera's with Sony's but that's who is supposed to be making it.

I'd suggest you take a look at Sony's dslr High ISO test then. And compare them w Canon and Nikon come back and let me know if ISO 3200 or 6400 looks the same on a Sony compared to a Nikon

Considering you're the one who made the claim/accusation, shouldn't you be the one to provide some sort of evidence to back that claim?

Look are you trying to be a rocket scientist or something. The output of the sensor goes through massive manipulation by computer chip and firmware before you see it. Canon and Nikon could both pick up the same chip and come up with absolutely 180 degree different results. Your statement is laughable non-sense. But then again perhaps you think my MSEE and 25 years of design and manufacturing experience in electronics are laughable. Makes no difference to me. I am only talking about Sony's ability to perform excellent manufacturing on CMOS sensors, which it is well known they do. Good designers too although the D3, D700 sensor design was driven by Nikon. I am not talking about Sony DSLR camera's, I could care less about them.

Nikon has said otherwise. They openly disclose that many of their other sensors are manufactured by Sony but the D3/D700 sensor they claim is not. To my knowledge, they haven't disclosed who does make them. I'd agree that that fact, combined with the fact that that bit of information hasn't leaked by now, is odd -- still, I was firmly under the impression that the D3/D700 sensors were not Sony made.
The sensor of the D3 and D700 is labelled as Nikon design - is that the same as "manufactured by Nikon"? I dunno.... Shall we move this thread to the Nikon Board ?

I would agree that we should not pound this subject anymore, it doesn't add value for any of us. In closing I would simply say that Nikon management (read officers of the company) have never stated who makes the D3/D700 sensor and never denied that it was being subcontracted to Sony for manufacturing. Lets close it this way. The number of companies capable of manufacturing high volume/high quality FF CMOS sensors of this and higher density, are to be clear, extremely limited. Nikon marketing, which is a pretty sharp bunch of late, just clearly does not want to discuss it and I don't blame them. It can be confusing and misused in the hands of less informed people. , so we know that Canon is not making them.

Oh yeah, the 5D MarkII is available in China now.
Good point. Let's focus on the reason I started the thread.
