I tried resurrecting this shot from a flat and lifeless image. I like the horse/rider, but think their too small and the sky is pretty bad, this may end in the trash bin. I might try converting it, but wanted your opinion..

Hmmm....looks a bit oversat? Neat composition though. Wondering if you could do something with the sky only? And turn down the sat a little.

Cool work, Zeph. I love the composition! I don't know if you did the sat intentionally high for effect, but I like it. Has a neat graphic poster feel that's very appealing. The layered depth and vivid colors are terrific.
Don't know what the original was like, but definitely not for the trash bin. I think this may be a good candidate for conversion, too.

I wouldn't trash it. The sky is pretty bland, but could easily be saved with some ps work. I totally agree with Barry: this is pretty close to that 50's travel poster look, which I think is sort of neat. I'd fix up that sky and then play with some b&w conversions.

If it were mine I'd keep it Zeph - I like the use of the rider to show the scale of the cliffs

Hi Zeph,

Looks fine to me. Stark with the rider to provide perspective seems just right for that part of the country. Maybe mask in a bit of Selective Color (increased Black Level of the Cyan, and maybe Blue Channels to manage the dull look of the distant ridge?

I think this is a perfect comp and the rider adds a great sense of scale. I might tone done either the satutration, but only in the reds and only on the sand. Everything else looks perfect. This is a great shot.

Hey Zeph, I would keep it and work the sky. A little use of of a GND mask on the sky and you're done. The rider gives a great sense of scale to the land.

I prefer it in BW because of the sky. I wouldn't trash it, the horse and rider are great against the superb backdrop.

Hey Zeph,

I like the composition! I think the size of the horse and rider are fine. I like your B&W conversion here, it for one helps to bring out some details in the sky. I think color could work, just play with the WB a bit on it.

Gotta go with the color version here, I think it rocks, sky looks fine to me and the color contrasts are wonderful. The horse and rider work excellent, giving scale and even more feeling. Excellent work Zeph, the color version is top notch and a definite keeper in my book.

Hi Zeph.

I'm really glad you kept it and converted it! Very nice. I like the original anyway, despite the sky, and with the "saturation". The B+W conversion works well and takes me back to the old West.
