From last weekends flight workshop with Ray Barlow. I was unable to get really good shots of this nice bird in flight, so I have to settle with static shots until I get a chance to give it another try.
Well for sure Shane these look great. I am not too familiar with a goshawk so I am glad to see the wonderful static shots Really neat patterning and more of black and white bird then the warmer colors of other raptors. Hope your in-flights fall in to place for you soon, I know you will nail them next time!
A magnificent series and a magnificent bird. Stories abound of this bird's single-mindedness when hungry, and it will crash through trees after prey, often bigger than itself. It's only real threat is the great-horned owl. My favorite story is of the farmer's wife who couldn't beat one off her barnyard hen after a goshawk chased it into the house---and then proceeded to pluck and eat it in the middle of the kitchen floor.
This bird looks capable of that. Well done!

Shane this series is wonderful! The first image is perfect to me!!! I love the stare and great use of light on this raptor. The fill light in his eyes is outstanding and well done!!!
Thank you very much everyone. The sun came out for just a little bit that day and we were able to put this guy on a perch for a few shots. All natural light. I am very happy with the outcome.
What an exciting/fun workshop it must've been ! Ray has been hosting successful workshops and I wish I could go there.
This Goshawk looks really sharp and I like this hawk better then other breeds. Your Goshawk shots are great and I'd be really excited if I could get any still shot of this hawk.
Thanks for sharing.
