Thanks for all the suggestions. I will try them later. The flash works perfect on the camera but when I hook the receiver to it it goes into rapid fire mode and wont stop. I believe Daniel is correct about the interference issue.

why not just use the 383? if you are using the 430EX for multi flash maybe the optical trigger will work with that... just a thought.
Does the 430 have a built in optical trigger? or do you mean use a seperate one. I have a seperate one that I was going to use, but if the 430 has one built in that would be even better.
Well, the batteries and changing channels didnt help. No biggie though. I am going to use the 430 on the camera and run the transmitter off the pc socket. I am getting good results like this.
I tried using my optical slave on the 430 and it will fire one time and then locks up. I thought that was very strange. It does not seem to like being used anywhere but on the camera. It is a real cheap slave, I figure it is causing some type of electrical interference causing the electronics in the flash to freeze. This slave works fine on the 430.
no, what I meant was that many photos using a multiple flash units radio to their main and use optical triggers for the others. If I was only using one of the OP's units on radio trigger it would be the 383 anyway, but if you want to add the 430 as a secondary and it didn't work with the radio trigger I thought it might work with an optical... but I see that that doesn't work either... buy a second 383... and use the 430 for what it was built for...
