My 6 year old daughter has been using my old Canon A80 for a while now, but I think it's basically dead now. Photos look like they have no blue channel at all. It's really fun taking her on hikes and finding out what she likes and how she sees the world.
I'd like to get her another camera, but I'd like it to be used. Looking to pay under $75. Does anyone have a good recommendation for a 1-3 year old P&S to look for? What should I realistically pay? On my local craigslist everything is wildly overpriced.
As far as the camera - 28mm on the wide end if possible, and I'd like to get her using an optical viewfinder to compose. I never taught her to zoom so the long end doesn't matter at this point. No megazooms, too big for her hands.
I got some good deals for my kids a few years ago on the B&S board here. I don't recall know which models they are, but that shouldn't matter at this age. Cheap and sturdy are the main goals, IMO. You will have a hard time finding a 28mm equivalent on a cheaper P&S though. I also recommend an optical viewfinder -- that's all my kids know how to use, and I have set up their camera to turn off the EVF screen display.
I let my 7-year-old have the 10D (that I got for $100, broken AF) and Vivitar 28/2 one day and taught her how to manually focus it. She actually got some decent shots and had a lot of fun.
I got my mom a samsung L100 camera from Kmart and it was a little over a hundred bucks and a warranty was really cheap. It was 8 mp and took some sharp pics, way better than my 7 mp hp one.
I'd go new if you can get a good camera for a little over that, and with xmas coming soon they'll have the gift boxes out soon.
