I guess you are one of those people who checks the paper for sales after you
have bought something, looking to see if the price has gone down? You'll
miss the 85L, if you're doing any sports shooting you'll be in heaven!!!

*g* I think you understand me perfectly. Mind you, when we met up last night having done a week long trade and I glanced through the viewfinder of the 5D+85L. *sighs* I will say though that the viewfinder of the IIn is much brighter than the 5D with any focusing screen I've seen, just not as err... expansive
A bit of context on this one. I wanted a more versatility, and I love the handling, speed and toughness of the 1D-series. He is a semi-pro 'tog and does birding with his 50D + 100-400 and concerts/church photography. He wanted something lighter, and wider than the 1D and he wasn't using the 70-200 at all since it was too long on the crop cameras and too short for birding.
Now, admittedly I do find the IIn is inferior to the 5D in toe-to-toe IQ at any ISO. However it's incredible AF, and burst means that I am nailing more shots quicker. I've also been doing more sports photography (hockey and skateboarding) as of late, so the 8.5 FPS is very nice.
I should probably add that I purchased the 85L for $620 CAD a few months back from an old pro. I like to call them the "national geographic-type 'togs"
Note: that my stuff is immaculate, his 70-200 has a bit of wear on the outside, but the elements are immaculate.
Thoughts?
Sounds like different setups for a different type of shooting. The new setup is better for sports (not to sure about the screen though) and the old one better for street and portrait. Value wise I think it is close to wash, unless you want to assign a big premium for the 1DIIn or a 1DII. BTW, how many shutter activations on each body.
Your deal was an even steven, a wash, a ying and yang. It's about 3K of stuff, so with the market fluctuations of just yesterday I bet many of us normal peoples retirement funds were down about 50-75K for the day hard to sweat your deal
Different countries, methods and madness, even good stuff moving 15% in a day crazy. People work a hard deal to save $30 on a 2,000 item. Funny old world. I guess the photo talk is too empty minds at the end of the day. Ok whining aside back to photos, tell us show us photos.....
