p.1 #10 · Good to the last drop- Bald Eagle | |
Hello Tim & Larry and Garen,
Normally I do not respond to either the crop police or horizon detectives but I think that a better understanding of some details of this image would help to understand the geometry. I was wandering along the tree line of the Chilkat river in Haines Alaska with a brand new Mark 3 - shutter problems unknown to me at this time. When an eagle that had been lurking in the tree line on the ground watching me, flew 6 feet in front of me for the dead salmon near my feet. I was able to take a series of 88 images of this eagle over 20 minutes and was easily able to walk 180 degrees around him to take his bad beak side. He could not care that I was there all he wanted was to eat the fish. The only thing that disturbed him was another eagle lurking and planning to take control of his meal.
The alleged rock is the salmon that the eagle was feasting on I was so close that I had to back off to achieve focus and get pertinent and identifiable parts of the eagle into the image..
There is no horizon in this image - you are looking at the rivers edge curving slightly away from where the eagle is standing. The eagle was standing some of the time in the waters edge some of the time on a small sand ledge or on the salmon. The image was cropped close to highlight the blood drops. I could have remained much longer but had to retreat to get another CF card from the car never thinking that I would find such a willing subject. I now use 16 GB cards and carry spares duct tapped all over my body..
The exif information
1D MK3
1/800
f/3.2
ISO 1000
300 Mm
Flash with better beamer -3
Partial metering
very dark conditions
I hope that his information helps to understand the missing horizon. I will try to add images that show the shoreline with the eagle from both sides if I can figure out how to do it.
Doug
