Yep I know. David Zizer have a talk about sigma 12-24, maybe that would be a nice compagnion to the 16-35. And instead of paying 2000$ for the 14, Sigmas is arround 600 $

I have the 17-40 mm Canon and bought a Sigma 12-24 mm on Wednesday. I haven't had much chance to use it yet but here are a couple I took in the building where I work. You certainly get some distortion at the edges but I rather like the effect you can get with this lens. It's very different in the way it renders a scene compared to the 17-40. By the way, these shots are HDR.

Beautifull HDR pics. I can see, that the distortion is really heavy, but in pictures like this it is fine.

Yes, I will go to my dealer and test the 14 and the 12-24 against my 16-35, then I will be back with my personal conclusion.

I just fooled around my camera shop today with the 14-24 from ... the dark side (: . One of the few temptations of "the other brand" (: , but a really powerful one (:. Superb lens, but the simple FL difference from 14 to 16 was not worth 2000 USD for me (at the moment). The only strong point that the 14L still has for me is superior correction and resolution against my 16-35 mk2 but ... I don't think that would make such a tremendous difference in my photography , at the moment. Channeling those funds towards a 200 2 IS might .... (:.

Thaks. My problem with 16-35 is the distorsion. If you accidently place a person close to the edge, then their head get enormous. I have heard that the 14 mm should be better.

Who told you that? Did it make sense to you at the time? Does it make sense if you think about it?
