I lost a HDD while both were activated and want to share my experience getting it fixed.
So I loose a drive and rebuild. A plug for Genie-Soft backup for serving me very well.
I am using Vista x64 by the way.
I install CS4 and open the x64 version and get the "Ahem" you already have two activations screen. the bottom option to do it within 30 days is default selected.
I call Adobe and get a person pretty fast. He has me on hold for 4 minutes and tells me to close and open and BAM! We are good.
I dial it in and try Bridge. I open a RAW file, CS4 opens then ACR. Now I have the Double click edits RAW but it's not working like that.
So I right click on a raw file thumb and choose "open in camera raw". I get " Editing in Camera raw not available". And something to the effect a valid program has to have been launched at least once before it will.
So I open CS4 32bit version and get the Ahem screen again. I close and open the x64 and it's still good to go.
I call Adobe, tell my story and was told while in the Ahem screen to choose next. It goes away. Close and open a file. Close CS4 and open again. Same thing.
I get put on hold and while waiting I close and swap to the x64 and it's still good, I then open bridge and now can do the Bridge to ACR thing just fine.
I open the 32 bit version and no ahem screen. I look in Help and the Deactivate option is no longer shaded out.
So in a nut shell if you crash and burn an activation call. If running x64 close it, open x86 and do a next on the Ahem screen and open and close a file and close CS4. Then
open the x64 and you should be good.
So she comes back and says she is going to transfer me to a tech that will walk me through reinstalling !!!! Man am I glad I kept at it while on hold. And yes it was over seas help. The first call for the x64 was not.
