Ok so I've been lurking here, posting occasionally for a while here on fm,
I've gained alot of inspiration and learned alot from other peoples work and I figure it's about time I shared some of mine (after all the whole point of taking photos is to look at them right).
Here's a few photos, c&c is appreicated and don't worry - I won't be offended if you don't like them:

I'm not sure what to do about the sky in the last one - whenever I try to merge a sky it never looks right...
I'm by no means pro but I'm practicing and hopefully improving...

Actually I've decided compositionally these are rubbish - I've missed the feet off
Any comments on the processing? Too much? I got the effect I was going for, I wonder if anybody else likes it?
Thanks again
Leaving the feet off the third one isn't bad. In addition it's not a rule that can't be broken in certain situations. I tend to agree with you that at least the first is rubbish, though. I like some things about the processing, but I think you might want to work on introducing contrast and crushing the shadows without losing quite so much detail. I like the colors, but feel that the bright blue shirt of the subject in the first two doesn't "go".
I think that is a bit better than the first version, but you're the one developing your own eye for these things. What do you think? You might want to look up tutorials on local contrast enhanements, including dodging and burning, and start playing with that (not saying necessarily on these images). Keep shooting and posting, and have a nice day.
I have only recently started to process my photos (as oppose to just downloading them from the camera) and have found it's a steep learning curve! Seems to be trial and error is the way forward
Glad to see you start posting. How can we comment/assist you if we can't see the pics? (If other lurkers are reading this - post away!)
You did cut off a few feet in these, and recognized the problem yourself.
My suggestion for improving your pics has to do with background.
The real estate industry has: location, location, location, as the 3 most important things in real estate.
My take on that is: Background background background, are the three most important for photography.
As a case in point, your #2 pic. Notice how well the hood, hand and radio show against the darker brick wall? Now notice how poorly the white jacket shows against the lower (white) part of the wall?
Now back to #1. White jacket against white wall. Dark pants against dark wall. Everything blends in.
Pay attention to backgrounds and you will like your photos more. Try this and post some more.
The images not showing up in the post was a n00b issue with me - hopefully that is now fixed
I see what you mean about choosing a contrasting background as it adds separation.
I previously put all my focus on the subject and general background, often forgetting about other, smaller details such as clipping hands/feet etc out and how well everything fits in/fits together - I'll get the hang of it one day
