I have been searching for info on problems I might have if I buy an adapter to mount my dad's old Olympus 50mm 1.4 to my 5D.
Q's: Am I likely to get any Mirror interference?
The Serial # is 422xxx, what are chances of color cast etc ?

Any comments on general performance of this lens would be appreciated, to help me decide if it's worth looking for an adapter.

There are no reported issues using Zuikos on Canon.
The Zuikos are really easy to adapt and they are not too cranky about adapters.

As for the color cast. I can´t answer since I don´t own that Zuiko.

The Zuiko 50 1.4's were changed/improved quite a bit(at least three times) over their manufacturing history. In general, the later ones are said to be the best and I think the sought after serial numbers are greater than something like 1,100,000. The earliest ones are not muliticoated and also supposedly do not perform as well wide open as the later ones. I had a very late 1,100,000 at one time and it did indeed perform incredibly well. I think you just have to try the one you have and see what happens. I doubt you will see much color cast as the non multicoated Olympus lenses in general still had very decent coatings.

yep, Tariq is quite correct; just few days ago, I retested a zuiko 1.4-50 for night shots, at f 2 and 2.8.
Not really bad, nor a winner either; and yes, its one < 1'100 000, with a brownish, single coating, therefore reacting highly on flares.
AFAIK the color cast is undocumented yet; but I didn't spend lots of time to research.

I have my first alt lens in operation and I'm happy given the cost.
$14 AUD adapter
$55 AUD Ee-S focus screen for 5D
Thanks to Dad for his old OM2 & Lens...

I found that I had to have the focus screen because I just couldn't get accurate manual focus without it. I also realised that my right eye is (a lot) worse than my left eye for sharp vision, old age, what a bummer but at least I don't get nose prints on the LCD any more.

I think I have the infinity focus sorted but would still like to 'micro' adjust it, does anyone know if there is an easy way to adjust the lens ? I have just used electrical tape under the adapter which seems to work, but would appreciate any advise on this.

You can adjust infinity focus by loosening the three grub screws under the focusing ring. Just be careful not to twist the two helicoids apart.

Shirozina had a post a while back on doing these infinity focus adjustments, and whie his post was aimed primarily at C/Y Zeiss lenses, the procedure for Zuikos would be same
