p.1 #1 · rhinoceros beetle

Hello everyone,

For the past few months I had little time for photos and for posting them here. I will try now. This is a rhinoceros beetle, a hornless female unfortunately. Aa always, comments are welcome.

This is a male for comparison, a dead specimen unfortunately:

Nice series....these critters are particularly hard to get right, their shiny body is a pain when using flash...maybe we could get a few tips on how to shoot the shiny bugs!!!... Well done...Karen

Oh man I would love to find me one of these beetles!! I found a few females in my backyard but they tend to burrow and hard to find. What are the chances of finding the male if there's a presence of females?

Thanks, everyone. Karen - I just used a home-made flash diffuser from soda cans and paper towel, along the lines of the advice given by Brian V. n0b0 - probably you have different species of these in Australia? Here they are pretty rare, and indeed not easy to find. This particular female had dry dirt on her, so she was burrowing as well. They can be attracted to lights at night - this is usually how I find them.
