Bonjour Yves + M.

My Following remark is offered in a friendly tone of voice and is not a comment on the model.

I don't care for the way the spots appear to be on the skin. Looks like a bad skin condition such as Karposi's lesions.

I hope that comment helps you.

Back to the drawing board. The combination of a dirty mirror and a not so attractive model just don't cut it...

Interesting comments because my reaction was the opposite. The spots are clearly from the mirror as they extend beyond the model. The model is also sufficiently attractive. I think there are multiple visual layers to this exposure created by the interplay between the model and the dirty mirror that makes this photo an interesting piece.

I find the model real and the overall image interesting.

I think the model and the mirror might work, but I didnt like the mirror in that position. It almost seems that if a lady would be using the mirror it would have been standing up. This would have given us more view of the lady being photographed and made her more of the subject. The mirror also doesnt appear to be a normal dirty of that makes sense but more like someone splashed mud on it. Interesting shot though I would try it some more.

thanks to you all for your comments.

I understand that I have to work on the concept a bit more. However I posted a picture from the series a few weeks ago, with a lot of positive comments. The mirror takes more space, it was in BW and only the torso was visible in this previous post.

I keep the concept and remind the approach for a next time.

Steady, your comments are ever helping and encouraging,

John ... hum I didn't serve the beauty of my wife, the model in this picture. By the way she's the model in a lot of other nude pictures and there she receive great comments about her natural beauty. It's a chance for me to live with a woman ready to work on her body to create something common between us, trying to be uncommon in the art approach process. I take your comment to enhance the next shooting results, but, honestly the model is attractive it's my picture the faulty part.

Tom, thanks. I also thinked that the spots are clearly on the mirror, but I have to recognise that the whole representations could be somewhat confusing. I keep my rules on the fact that a picture has to provide emotion and to be "readable". Your comments encourage me, as those from Steady does, to work more on new (for me) photography concepts.

ohenry, thanks. As previously written,... interesting is a good beginning. I work further for the next ones

bugspit, thanks for your analyze. The fact is that the we walked on the country side and found an abandoned place (old officer's mess of a military base). As my wife and I are always with a camera and that she's my "official" muse, we decided to try and shoot. The mirror was old and scratched, not dirty but damaged. The only challenge was to find a shooting angle showing the face and the torso (another one showing only the torso has a better perspective) and to avoid that I'm in the picture (another one is a couple-autoportait in the mirror ; ... so was the shooting angle a bit to much from a perspective criteria.

We keep working ...

Great shot, great model.
To me it has the look/quality of an old oilpainting, I like it.

Somewhat how I feel. Clearly this isn't a posed portrait, but a candid, whether posed or not. I find it attractive on several levels, from the defects of the mirror to the beauty of the female form. It's like we are a fly one the wall and have an intimite look into the room. In other works I like it a lot.

Yves:

I don't do nudes so take this for what it's worth...

I think the model's expression is a little too intense for this kind of photo. In my opinion, it draws most of the attention in the photo. Since she's your wife, spend time observing her closely, in casual situations, to learn those expressions and looks that soften her, then when you need that expression remind her of those situations during the shoot. Certainly, you already know what you find attractive about your wife--just capture those details in total and you're there.

You have a willing subject so 75% of the battle is won! You just need a little fine tuning.

Thanks,
Bruce

I agree with that point about "old oilpainting."

It does.

I am not liking the amount of 'coverage'(?) of her eyes. If there was a cleaner shot of her eyes OR seeing much less of her eyes, it would be more comfortable for me to look at. I like the spots on the mirror for the question of 'what is going on here?' 'Is it on her?' 'Is it on the mirror?'

Thanks for the post.
