Don't often find largish caterpillars in my garden. This one was on the edge of a leaf on top of my compost heap barely moving. Assume it should have already pupated. Took the opportunity to do some focus stacks on it. About 18mm long. Hadn't seen the hooks they have on their feet before or what I assume is their jaws. Also has some mites on it's head.
Interesting view - particularly like the little grabby things on the rear feet. His girth reminds me of the catterpillar in the animated movie Bugs' Life
Thanks for the comments all - don't often get to shoot caterpillars in my garden- I think the solitary wasps and blue tits normally get them all.
