Even on a Mac, this is always a pain in the ass. Adobe does not provide the feature of transferring your Photoshop program settings when you upgrade. Because I've been upgrading since version 5, I can properly replace a lot of items manually, like actions (another pain) and plugins. How about workspaces? Where the heck is the folder of workspace settings in CS3, so I can move it to CS4, which I was able to locate. The locations of these things always move around with each version. And, how about color settings and all preference settings.
And how about Bridge? Do I have to remember all my settings and enter them all again? This is stone age! Is there a way to tell Bridge CS4 where all the thumbnail cache is from CS3? Do you know how long it will take for the program to recreate all my thousands of thumbnails from hi-res files? No, longer.
Pardon my rant-like attitude, but this is a high level program. Transferring this data at install should be part of the deal. Mac OS is the perfect example of how life should be.
Anyone know more tricks than me? Please share.....
I have no tricks to offer, and yes this is very "Stone Age" it's a massive task transferring presets/actions/gradients/brushes/workspaces etc..
I don't understand either why it couldn't be intergrated into the install process, as with every version, the folder structure for Photoshop remains the same. I can see maybe why you would have to setup a new workspace, as with each new version comes interface changes, but the rest should be handled by the install, easy.
Yes, all a total pain my CS4 the bridge forgets how it was set up with every start.
All my colour settings had been transferred to CS4 on install, also bridge thumbnails worked just fine may 1000s, so that should be the up-side.
