My 5D just stopped working for no reason. I was taking some photos of my kid and swapped lenses (to a brand new 85L II which I have used only once before with no issue) and then nothing. The camera went dead. Not sure when exactly in the lens swapping it happened, but its stoned cold dead. Tried 3 different batteries and a couple different lenses and nothing. Any ideas? The camera is about 6.5 months old.
Um, no. You mean the date/time battery? Just found instructions on line as to how to fix and will replace it tomorrow and see if it works. Thank you for the suggestion. That's why I love this forum.
Hi. No grip. I just replaced the date/time battery this afternoon at Adorama and still nothing. The camera was a refurb and just out of my doubled 90 day refurb warranty courtesy of amex (15 days out). I sent it into Mack Camera (purchased a 3 year extended warranty). I'll report back as to what the problem was and my experience with Mack for anyone that is interested. Repair time is 10-20 days. 30D backup to the rescue.
Similar thing happened to me once.. I attached a brand new sigma 15 fish to my 5D and it died instantly. I sent it in and Canon fixed it no problem, sent the lens to sigma and they fixed it within a day.. turned out some contacts were crossed or something. But if you've used that lens before with no problems that's kind of strange...

Yeah, I shot a couple hundred frames with it a couple days ago and the lens works perfectly fine on the 30D. Weird. Lets see what they say... I miss my 5D already.
