shot this in langdale , lake district.
never managed to get a decent result with layer masks from the 3 bracketed images.
just tried photomatrix, this is second go.
comments please, lighting looks spot on from what i can remember with a storm over langdale pikes in the distance .

Looks good. Some of the best HDRs I have seen all use a similar technique in Photomatix. I have also been experimenting with it (http://skylightimaging.smugmug.com/gallery/5834601_Xegmt for examples).

Try processing twice in Photomatix. Once with Tone Mapper and save as Tiff, then another version in ToneCompressor and save as Tiff. Open both in Photoshop and add the tone mapper as a layer over the tone compressor version. Set the layer to around 20% opacity and start from there until it looks good. Then follow your normal Photoshop processing routines. This seems to result in very natural looking HDRs.

Superb lighting , composition and processing , Phil . One of the best Lake District pictures I've seen in a long time . It looks very natural to me , and you have caught that very special Lakes feeling and weather most accurately . Congratulations !

Nicely done...

I think HDR is MOST effective when not way overdone...The most popular images of mine have been HDR's that are not wayy over-HDR'ed

Very nice. I also wouldn't have guessed HDR. The smoke/mist just coming out of the valley on the right looks cool.

Hey Phil,

Great work here! This is a very nice shot, the composition is great and what cool lighting.

Myself, I don't like HDR because of how ugly most shots turn out, but with more shots of your quality coming out, I might have to change my position on that.

Great comp and very natural looking indeed. I' add some contrast to the upper half for drama.

Looks great to me! Niceley seen, taken and processed.. Looks like it could be slightly warmed up to soften the blue cast in the distance (although that is personal taste)
