p.1 #1 · Focus Stacking with Nikkor 105 Micro VR

Just wondering if anyone has done any focus stacks with this lens and can suggest some best practices. As noted by Rockwell this revision of the 105 Macro changes the framing of the image as the focus changes (http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/105vr.htm#breathing), it seems to me that this framing change (if following LordV's stacking tutorial) will cause issues. I also have a full set of extension tubes, would I be better off using the tubes plus my 50 rather then the 105?

Thanks.

Don't think there is anything to worry about with your lens- with macro lenses the focus ring and magnification ring are the same thing. I would probably use it with the VR off though. The image framing changes when you are taking focus slices for a stack no matter whether you move the camera or move the focus ring. The software makes allowances for this and re-sizes each fram to suit as part of the stacking process.
Hope that makes sense

Cool Thanks for the quick reply. I'm going to give this a try in the next couple days I'll post what I come up with.
