p.1 #1 · BE 15 meters from the Yak!!

I headed out this morning hoping for flat water and nice light. Well I got flat water!! I also had dense fog. I decided to head out and paddle around, it was unworldy in both peace and solitude. At one point off in the edge of what I could see I thought I saw the shape of an eagle eating on a log. I slowly paddled over and sure enough and baldy was setting on this log eating. He paid me no mind and went about his business of eating. I got closer and closer, eventually getting as close as 15 meters according to the lens. I spent about 45 minutes watching this guy, it was way cool. Here are a quick two, needless to say more to come!! Heading out for snow geese, I hope.

That's cool Tim, just you, the Eagle, and the fog. That second shot really tells the story.

Having owned a boat and been out in foggy conditions I can relate to how quiet and calm it must have been...the second image says alot with no words. #1 is just plain great.

You should share that story with your yak company as well as the pictures Tim. These are situations that everyone, photogs, kids, adults, kids with troubles should have the oppportunity to experience, they are good for the mind and soul So were you mumbling under your lone breath something like 'holy shtuff, I can't belive what I am seeing' and then there is no one to share it with.................but wait, yes...........all your FM buddies will sure relate to and appreciate it! Excellent my friend, and I am so very glad you earned a moment of solitude like this. A very special outing for you, so what for fog and snow, there is a lot those unseen for those that don't venture out.....................

You may hate me know but come next summer you'll start liking me again

Nello you would have gone out, if you could only see what it looked like. I may just post more scenery later.

Thanks buddy,

Tim

Wow, simply wonderful shots. Even more amazing to me is that you had the time to change lenses, in a kayak, with a Bald Eagle in front of you, for the second shot. I'm sure I would have dropped the lens in the river out of sheer excitement for the moment. Great job!

Let's see you thought of me, did it go something like this? "glad I didn't decide to go with Tim today, it sucks out there"

Tom it was one of the most amazing days on the water. Once far enough out, I couldn't see anything but water and fog and then I couldn't tell where one started and the other ended.

Thanks buddy,

Tim

Congrats, Tim on your finding. Getting close makes things a lot easier and you were able to get some nice detail in the first shot. I also like the second shot. It has a good feel and mood. The way I see that shot is with less space on the left side (looking at the picture) and on top, though. However as long as you like it as it is, that's fine with me.
The fog does adds some drama to the second shot. However if you want to get rid of some haze in your shots (especially the close ones) try a setting with the USM tool around these values and see how you like it:
- Amount: 60%
- Radius: 60 to 70
- Threshold: 0

very cool. the fog must have heightened the experience of it being just you and the BE alone. the 2nd shot is very artistic in that there is a subtle gradation between the grey foreground water and the eventual grey foggy sky that you cannot see where one ends and the other begins. i do have one suggestion. i would clone out that rock to the upper right of the BE. it's an eye distraction.

I particularly like the second. Very nice. It really conveys the atmosphere convincingly as well as the magic of seeing wildlife alone like that... Great job!
