Gulls @ 7,500 feet

Surprised me big time to find these guys still around. Every once in a while during the summer a few show up and then they are gone. I asked a couple of park rangers about them and they gave me a funny look so I took them down to the cove where I found them. Now all 3 of us are surprise. Heron Lake is about 7500 ft. elevation so they are just not common for us. Since the Salmon are starting to run they are hanging out waiting for Salmon to wash a shore.

Very nice Roger. My question is salmon at 7500 feet? Landlocked? the gulls are going to be cold pretty soon aren't they?

Very nice set Roger, you did a great job on these white guys. I must say you really getting highly skilled with your exposures. You've been nailing whites and blacks. Congrats.

We have already had snow and the other morning when I was at the lake it was 16 degrees F. I have no idea why they are still here or even showed up in the first place.

I am thinking nothing around here is on the same time as every where else. The wife the rangers in fact about everybody seems to have that look when they look at me. It is TUFF being the only normal person in this area.

I find that hard to believe ;

I guess identification means more to me as a birder than it does to a photographer. I thought I'd see a few guesses. I always get more from a photo if I know where it was taken (and not just some code understood only by locals ), what the subject is and perhaps a bit of a story.

To end the suspense, #1 and #5 are Ring-billed, the others, California.

Cheers,

Larry

I guess we be different, if it is free ranging and moving I try for a photo and if I don't know what it is thats OK as long as I got me a keeper.

Nice shots Roger,

The detail on # 3 is fantastic. I also like the wave BG in # 5. Those are some pretty big waves for a lake. I wonder how well the birds fly in the thin air at 7500ft. That's enough altitude to really make a difference on how much energy it takes to fly.
