6 followed by 10.

As others had mentioned clean is important for a cover.

Design aside and back to emotion. 7 evokes the father and daughter/parent child relationship in spades. Not trying to confuse you here. For emotion this would be my pick.

Thank you Howard,

I've been told it should be a vertical crop by one person on another board & someone suggested warming it up a tad for Golden Light....

Hi Lil. Glad to see you got the Swedish project underway.

You always have the option of more than one image on the cover. You can always place one full image on the back cover as well.

I was not impressed with the "Image Wrap" books from Blurb. My wife and I both prefer the soft covers to the hard covers.

Don't forget to dedicate the book to someone.

Let me know if I can help on any problems that might be hard to solve with the Blurb Help.

My pick would be #6 or #9 because they are simple but beautiful and have a very claen background to place a title on. You definitely need free space for that.
Good luck with your project

Hi Lil. Looks like you are making some progress on your book. I'm going to give you some advice based upon my own experience with making a blurb book. I decided to go with a wrap cover for the book. I chose a picture which had darker color tones. It looked great on my computer monitor, but when I got my book I was a bit dissappointed. The colors on the book color turned out more muted and darker than I wanted. It did not have the pop in colors that I was originally able to achieve on my computer monitor.

So my choice for your cover shot would be #10. I like the bright colors. It is a simple composition with no distracting elements. The cover should attract a passerbyers eyes and bright white on top of the clean blue background really should POP! Plus the clean blue background will give you room for some text for the title of your book.

Goodluck and post us a link once you have completed your book and have uploaded it to the blurb site.

Thank you Hung & I will

A definite #10... perfectly exposed, well composed, and simple.. It would certainly convince me to look at the rest of the book. And for the cover, KISS... keep it simple ... Just me opinion. Either way, Lil, I am sure your father will LOVE the book.. sort of like a brag book for him to show his buddies.

Thanks Shelley,

simple elegance - - sounds very Swedish to me.

I'm sure he'll like it.

6 or 10, aren't I a big help? You might try reprocessing 10 to give it more of a golden hour look, take down the brightness a bit and change the color temp to warm it up.

Thanks Robert,

I was also told it should have been a vertical shot on another forum.... Ah well....

I'll play with it.

Hi Tony,

yes - - I've restarted about three times.... Driving myself nuts each time.

I know I can do more than one... part of me thought one large shot would be more inviting, but I may change that - - your example is wonderful. Did you use Portfolio or Photo Book as "general" layout?

So you like the softcovers best...... Hummm - - I was going to give my father a Hardcover....

Book dedicated to my family, my father, mother, sister, husband, daughter & all my online friends for help & support.

I'll PM you.

Thanks Tony

The good part about having multiple images is that people can immediately see that you have a variety of images inside the book.

I am still using the old version of Booksmart - version1.9.5.xxx I found it easier to make my own template pages in Photoshop. That way I could add text and move both text and the image(s) around where I wanted them. When starting a new book in Booksmart, I would first Remove all the pages, then Insert > Photo - 1, full bleed, as I inserted each page I had created in Photoshop.

Besides being nearly $10 cheaper, we found the soft cover books just looked better. I have already had defective binding on one hard cover, which Blurb gave me a credit for.

When you upload your book and place your first order, you can order 1 soft cover and 1 hard cover for comparison, and to check that everything is okay with your layouts.

Sounds great Tony,

thanks for this information. I'm doing it in Blurb as I'm not that great on CS3 - - I do most of my editing in Nikon's Capture NX2 which just handles Nikon RAW files beautifully...

Thanks

Lil,
If I was doing it I would want the image(s) on the cover to reflect the concept which I think you have outlined in the title. The key words in the title for me are Moments which is in the plural and a journey which also suggests a progression or at least a variety of images and/or concepts. So I would go with multiple images on the front cover which would be representative of the content as a whole and including one like the tern feeding its chick which would perhaps signal the start of a journey/life and on the back have images such as the one of the squirrel which could be interpreted as having a rest after completion of the journey. I also think you could consider a couple of images of you with your camera showing a progression from when you started your journey to one of you now with the Sigmonster, maybe one on the back and one on the front or even in the introduction or dedication or interspaced in the book if you have any of you actually taking the photos. As the book is primarily for your father if you had an earlier one of you both and with a camera that would be a bonus.
Just a few ideas.

#10 is the one for me. #6 is a very nice shot, but the Egret has a showiness that just says "front cover" - the avocet is a bit more reserved, its all the puffed-up feather detail and the contrast that does it.
