So I have been seeing a tonne of awesome images from the D700 and I am falling in love with its feel and wondering if I will actually go for the 5DII. One question I had was about adapting my lenses the other way. The main one I am worried about is my Leica 80 1.4 lux. Can this go on a Nikon body? If not, anyone out there want to buy it? I also have my tamron 17mm, which I think will adapt nicely, just need a different adaptall mount. Other than that my only other lenses are the EF 35 f2 and the EF 50 1.8. So really, the only peice of pricey glass I have is the 80 1.4.

Just a note of explanation on my change of heart. I used have a nikon and loved it, but went for the 5d for FF. Now it comes time to update, and if I update my camera, then my laptop has to be done too because it wont handle 5dII files. So if I go for the Nikon, I get a fresh new sensor, a cheap assortment of lenses that dont need stop down metering with decent wide angles. The only thing I am loosing is the ability to do billboards and the video mode.

Oh the possiblities!

Why won't your laptop handle 5Dll files? It handles your 5D files, right? Then I can't see why it won't handle 5Dll files. If storage is the issue due to increased file size, you can always add storage -- which you probably have to do on a laptop anyway.

I'm not aware of any adapter to use the Summilux on Nikon. The register distance would require a very thin adapter. It may be possible to have the mount changed.

One thing to be aware of. Since you are located in Canada you need to be certain that you buy Nikon equipment through the Canadian dealers. Nikon Canada won't touch anything that wasn't sold initially through their dealer network. This is for both warranty and paid service work. It may not be an issue for you anyway since with the current Canadian $ rate there's no deals south of the border anyway

I have to say that after upgrading to a high MP camera(Sony a900), my old Powerbook G4(1.67 over three yrs old) and my ancient Powermac MDD dual 1.25 G4(over five years old now!) have no issues at all quickly converting the raw files, tweaking etc. The only issue I have run into is simply the need to add more storage. I'm due for an upgrade next year but its not a do or die situation productivity wise.

Thanks for the tips everyone. I was under the impression that my Macbook might struggle and it would be best to get something faster, but its nice to know you all have had positive experiences. It would be nice to change the mount on my summilux to fit the d700, but sort of an expensive lens to try this on.

You could test this by uprezzing one of your 5D images to 21 MP and test the performance in Photoshop etc. It will depend if you work in 8 or 16 bit, and if you use many layers etc.

By the way, D700 is a great camera!
