WOW....I think I'm gonna steal a couple and post them in my workout room for inspiration! j/k

These are beautiful! Love the different backgrounds, and your focus and exposure are right on. If you can make me look this good, I'll hire you in a jiffy! haha

Excellent job Hatch! Fitness is my favorite type of photography.
You really nailed 3,6,7 & 9. She has a nice even color which is rare. Often the girls have dark bodies from the protan, and much lighter faces.
You are right about #3 being a little hot on her face. Maybe just burn a little and it well be perfect.
My favorite is 6 for sure! How many lights did you use for this?

3 is my absolute favorite. The rare impression of a beautiful person who is not aware of her beauty (or perhaps not making it centre point).
I hope I make some kind of sense here at all...

Thank you for the kind words. She tried hard to get all the tan goop off after the show. I think she did a good job.

I will work on #3 a little more... the full res version has texture/detail in the image and from the adjustments... nothing is clipped... but... it does look a little hot.

For the lighting... single strobe and a reflector in most cases... or... natural light and a reflector.

Thanks again for the comments.

The only white is the label on her top and that is clipped. The fact that whites are not clipped (when there are none in the main image) is a misunderstanding of levels. The change of the white point to the edge of the histogram is only appropriate if there is white in the image.

First these are some very fine photos of a very fit and pretty gal. I lifted weights for many years and it never ceases to amaze me how different some gals look on stage and off. Frankly I would not have guessed it was the same young lady as in the first pic. My very favorite is #8. She looks beautiful, happy and super fit. Well done.

Going off the original in RAW... the skin was clipped... I adjusted the exposure/recovery sliders....using ctrl+alt and the slider to bring the skin back in to range. The tag I wasn't worried about... it was/is her skin... the shirt showed some clipping as well... but.. again... not to worried about it.

Is this the wrong approach? Chuck Gardner reminded me of this technique... been using it since.

I'm open to different techniques/ideas... always wanting to improve.

Let me know what you think.

Many thanks DavenFL She does look different... and I would imagine she looks really different today. The day after she has her carbs/water back... it is amazing to see how the body changes. My wife competes as well... something to see for sure.

Thanks again,

I hear you hatch, I had a girlfriend for many years who was really into it and I always told her I always loved her but I loved her even more with a little water weight on her to take off the razor cuts on the muscle groups.

The thing is that if you bring it back to where the skin is almost clipped you are effectively adjusting it as though the skin is white - which it isn't. So ideally the skin highlights should be less exposed than that.

Of course if you have overexposure of the image you have less scope for adjustment. If you look at Chuck's advice he advocates taking an image with a white fluffy towel in it to gauge the exposures - it is the towel which should be almost clipped rather than the skin.

I agree... the image was over exposed... just trying to bring back some of the skin detail... this one was the worst of the batch in this series... I adjusted from there and the exposures were better. So much to learn... so much to work on... I will get there one day

Thanks for the comments.
