I recently purchased a D300 on the buy/sell board. I wanted to check the actuations, can you help me?

just take a photo with it, and open it with software like EXIF viewer (mac) in order to find the number of acutations. Good luck

Here's what I use:
Opanda (win)
http://www.opanda.com/en/download/index.html
scroll down for the freeware version
In the column heading of Entry, make the column wide enough to see the whole listing and look for "Total Number of Shutter Releases for Camera"
Kuso Exif Viewer <-- also reads from NEF (win)
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Graphic/Digital-Photo-Tools/KUSO-Exif-Viewer.shtml
Column marked Item, look for "ShutterCount"
Simple EXIF Viewer for Mac OS X
http://homepage.mac.com/aozer/EV/index.html
Look for "Camera Actuations"

If you have a Mac you can use the Preview app that is preinstalled - open the picture and go to inspector. On Windows there are several different apps to do that (some listed above)
