p.1 #1 · Seen the prices on OL 24mm Shift lenses?

I was curious about this lens and went to the auction site. Kind of stunned to see that these lenses range $2500- $2850 used!!! There are around six of them up for sale now.

The new Nikon is like $1900 and has Tilt as well. Are folks buying these OL Shift lenses at that price? You can get a nice used Canon 24 TS-E lens for around $900. I know that the Canon 24 has some issues with sharpness in the corners but is the OL lens that much better?

Just kind of curious what folks paid for their OL 24 and how they like it...

I'm yet to be convinced that the OL 24 shift is that spectacular were it matters - in the corners when shifted.

How many wide angles are great period?

I would like to get a 24 Shift or Tilt Shift. I have rented the Canon TS-E lens and its OK, but not great. I own the 45 TS-E and like it.

Pentax used to make a 28 as did Nikon. But I want the 24.

Without resorting to the Hartbly you have the Canon, the old OL and the new Nikon. With the Canon its twist and go. The new Nikon is supposed to be good, but that means getting a new Nikon FF body. The OL is an option but you need the adapter and have to deal with stopped down metering and loss of recorded data info. Still doable as this is usually tripod shooting. The OL also lacks Tilt which is really nice to have as well.

So if the average Canon is say $1000 and the average OL (when you can find one) is $2500, then those OL corners had better be pretty darn spectacular for the price difference! Who is buying these OL lenses? I doubt it is OL OM film body users. More than likely it is FF Canon users. I doubt there is that much cache in owning one as a "collectible."

If the guys who are selling them are asking these prices then they must figure the demand is there. I would love to see a comparison between the Canon and the OL: lets see what that $1500 difference looks like...

These $2000+ offers are there all the time and never (?) sell. Current realistic prices are in the $1000 range, see completed items 380068384962 and 140271783075

I wish someone would make a good 24mm shift to fit Canon. The 24mm TS-E I borrowed over the summer is laughable in comparison to all my alternative lenses. The sharpness was quite poor indeed.

And when you see the condition of the lens in the first listing, one can understand why it sold for what it did.

As for the second listing - I beleive someone got an excellent deal if it turned out to be a good copy.

A realistic price for the OM 24mm f3.5 shift is closer to $1800 for a copy in EX+ condition and well worth $2200 if you can find a good copy in minty condition

I own this lens and have used the canon and nikon Shift lenses. So far, there is nothing close to what the OM can deliver.

Have you used the latest Nikon 24mm shift?

I sold one a few months ago. Listed it here a bunch of times. Finally ended up selling for about $1400. Had minimal wear, clean glass.

What a lens is going for is often quite a bit below what ebay'ers are asking.

I saw some review which said that the 24mm shift was the best lens ever made by anyone.

That's a pretty broad statement, especially considering that the CZ 21 f/2.8 is widely considered to be the best wide angle ever made, and that's not making any claims to best lens ever. And how do you rate such a thing?

There's no way to compare a 24mm shift lens with, say, the Canon 200 f/2 IS or 300 f/2.8 IS. Both of which would be in the running for best telephoto lens of all time.

Some of the Leicaphiles might put a few of the legendary Leica M lenses up against anything for that title as well.

If you read what I said--> I have used the Olympus and Nikon Shift (that the older 28mm and 35mm Nikon Shift lenses) - not tilt/shift. And as long as I own/use the Olympus OM 24 Shift with Canon, I don't see the need to sped $1700+ on the Nikon Tilt-Shift.

I have seen the reviews on the New Nikon TS and think it's a really good lens. However, until I use it and see how it suits my needs, I can't really praise it or bash it.
