Is it just me, or does anyone else find this lock too easy become unlocked during routine camera handling? My hands are then apparently just the right size to trigger any number of accidental releases (especially if I'm set on Ch). Seems just gripping the camera with my right hand brings the fleshy part of my palm at the base of my little finger into just the contact required to press that release.
I'm thinking of putting tape over the button, but I really don't want to put some gunk on there that will look or feel terrible when I remove it. Anyone with a similar problem have any suggestions?

Don’t fret about it. Just delete those accidental firings of the shutter. I do that all the time with my D2H bodies. I’ve gotten used to the fact that the vertical button will get pushed accidentally from time to time. I feel sheepish when there are people close enough to me to give me a funny look when they hear the shutter and look to see me taking photos of the ground. As s sports shooter, I don’t want to turn the vertical button off. I don’t want to miss any action. What probably does bug me is that rare time when I might bump that little lever, and turn the button off.

I used to have a problem with bumping the shutter lock release on my grip, so i tried the aforementioned gaffers tape solution, I found that I missed shots a few times that I would not have flapping the tape back. Now I just delete the extra ground shots with the other non keepers.
Gaffers tape is definitely useful and should be in every kit for sure though, I have the af/mf switch taped because i missed a few shots bumping it....
