p.1 #1 · A cheap Fisheye

I bought a Zenitar 16mm fisheye to do a full stadium shot in a couple of weeks. I really didn't want to spend $600 on a fisheye. I just got it a few days ago and I wanted to check to see how far I would have to stop it down to get a fairly sharp shot. I thought that I would try it out on one of my favorite models. She seemed happy enough to let me take a few shots. I was pretty amazed at the sharpness of this lens and the colors are pretty nice too. It's about a $150 lens and it is manual focus. These are at f11 but it seems to be pretty sharp even wide open. These are not defished she is pretty close to horizontal so it is not real fishy but believe me it can be plenty fishy on FX.

D700 16mm 1/60" f11 - oh yeah ISO-1600 - a bit of fill flash with the built on flash

High noon - f11

Thanks,
Darren

Thanks for posting this, I was looking into getting a fish but was discouraged by the price for a good full frame one. When you get a chance can you post a more landscape shot?

The second shot is priceless

A friend of mine picked one of these up a while back for her Canon and has been happy with the results as well. Not a bad investment for 150.

The zenitars are really inconsistent with their glass. Some of them are tack sharp, and others are soft even at f/11 or f/16.

Thanks! Andy I added a couple landscape type shots.... Sorry, I don't do much landscape shots(Sorry for the crappy landscape shots). It was pretty tough light. I didn't have much time on my lunch hour. I think this lens is as good as I'll need for a fisheye.

Thanks,
Darren
