Well, clearly stating in the Paypal's T.O.S. it says the seller cannot make the buyer pay the 3% in paypal fees, but every FS: post I see on the BS forum section, asks the buyer to cover the sellers fees. I have also noticed that the people who want the fee paid are usually the people who want substantially more than the item usually sells for used to begin with... I have found most people here within reason....will work with you...like any sales you have a willing seller and willing buyer...as long as you keep your head and are within reason...you can get the deal done...if not move on... their will always be another widget to buy... Higher ticket items I'm not willing to take such a hit and will opt for Google Checkout (1% for me) or I'll take a PP eCheck. What gives? it's not as if PayPal's policies are a level playing field, anyway, are they? PayPal protects PayPal first and it's customer second, and year after year, their fees have only gone in one direction. Actually, if the seller is to pay the PP fees, you're probably paying them anyhow. I'd think most sellers who list a PP included price on FM know the net price they're after and add the fees into the total listed price. I typically list an "all-inclusive" price when I sell items but will, on occasion, also offer a lower price if paid with Cashiers Check or USPS money order. The lower price reflects the PP fee savings. That way the buyer can get it for less if he's willing to wait a little longer to get his grubby little hands on the item. I refuse to visit Paypal to review the TOS but I imagine the circumstances in which non-compliance with this provision would matter is if there is a dispute and the buyer turns to Paypal for relief. Saying that, however, is not to suggest that simply demanding the seller eat the Paypal fee guarantees compliance with all the required terms, so I wouldn't likely make an issue out of it simply for that reason. Getting relief from Paypal is like getting payment from your insurance company. Both require the services of either an attorney or a Talmudic scholar prepared to analyze the smallest print produced by man... Personally, I only use listed Paypal fees as an excuse to negotiate a lower price, offering to pay by either personal check, USPS money order or a bank check issued by my bank which has a national presence. Usually I'm able to convince the buyer to accept the reduced price. Paypal is a disaster waiting to happen in my experience. I won't accept it when I sell gear. Oct 08, 2008 at 12:13 AM

Psychologically, even though I know I am getting the PP fee charged when I buy, its there already and out of site out of mind . Also seller didn't lazy out and saves us both time and aggravation, a +1 to any seller imo. You know your buyer probably US if in US, you know you are gonna charge PP fee, Take the extra 10 seconds to run calc, get the charges to add to what you wanna sell, put charges in and give the total price. If I buy, and it involves math, its an added PM to say this is the number I got before I send it, is this what you came up with as well. Sale a minimum of 3 PM's. When I post something I list item prices, PP fees and shipping fee unless it's pretty inexpensive stuff. In that way buyer could choose other payment (echeck, MO etc) or shipment.
