p.1 #1 · 4 minute exposure

Went out for a ride this morning looking to do some long exposures in total darkness. I wanted to test the D700 to see how it would handle in terms of noise, hot pixels, etc.

Took this picture of the Eiffel Tower which was only lit up by twilight and street lamps.

By no means a prize winning photograph but in the end I think the camera delivered encouraging results and will look to do some more long exposures in the future.

Very nice composition and love the sky colour!! A little nitpick, the tree look somewhat oversaturated.

Thanks.

I think that's the effect of the long exposure as I simply used Standard picture style and +1 saturation in NX2. This said, I could bring saturation back to Standard and leave it as is.

It is a pretty image. And unusual colors for the subject.

Very well done. I like the composition and the exposure is great. I especially like the moving clouds near the Eiffel Tower. The light at the base of the tower is a bit distracting, but with a 4 minute exposure, that is what you're going to get.

Thanks.

The only way to get the light down would be to reduce exposure, but then the whole picture moves. I did increase highlight protection in NX2 and that helped a bit but nothing dramatic.

Perhaps you can use the Sponge tool in photoshop to desaturate the green.

Thanks. I can even do this in NX2 by using one of the color control points focusing in on the greens.

What I have done however is bumped the saturation back to Standard and replaced the original image on line with it.

Thanks Monty

I also like the effect of having the colors pop, almost surreal...

Indeed, the Eiffel Tower does draw you in to photograph it, but it is not easy to get something different as has been done ever so many millions of times.

Awesome shot of a much shot structure Mark. Those trees sure are green though - is this a result of something in post?

Thanks.

Actually nothing extraordinary done in post processing. Took picture in Standard mode, so these colors are very moderately saturated.

It's the long exposure that does it.
