p.1 #1 · Pocket Wizard broke

My tripod holding my camera was tripped on and the camera slammed on the floor, the PW took the blunt of the hit and broke where it screws onto the camera hot shoe. I think all I need is the outer casing. PW repair is closed now but I wanted to know what to expect? I have the Pocket Wizard Plus. Anyone have this repair done? How much will it cost?

Thanks!

Talked to PW today. They gave me 2 options. The first was to send it in for repair, the cost $53.00 plus shipping. the second option was for them to send me the part. The part cost $5.00. I ordered two of them. They said that they PW's are designed to break the way it did. It's common.

It's really easy to replace the hotshoes. I did it for my 2 PWs that broke the hotshoe arms.

Just make sure the pin in the middle stick out out the opening in the shoe when you install new ones.

Just don't break the LCD screen - simple repair to unscrew the casing and pull apart the two PCBs: LCD + buttons in front and radio functions in back. You'd think that the radio portion would be the expensive part: not according to PW - they hit me for $170 to replace just the LCD board!

Yes, PWs are designed to break. You read it right. It's much easier to replace a $5 foot than buy a whole new unit. I broke 2 PWs in a week and thought I was screwed to have them repaired or purchase new ones. Called my local repair place, they had the feet for $8 or so. Bought 2, and the repair took me maybe 10 minutes each, very very simple process.

Thanks PW for designing them like this. Might be good to even carry a few extra feet just in case.
