p.1 #1 · short throw projector

hi,
does anyone have any experience of using a short throw projector? I am looking at one that can project from just 3 inches, the advantages in a crowded recepetion hall speak for themselves but I am concerned about ease of setting up and picture quality,
any guidance much appriechiated

Absolutely not. 3 inches? That's fundamentally impossible with a traditional projector. Even 3 feet is pushing it with most... the Hitachi CP-A100 can put up a reasonable image (60") and do it from about a foot and a half, but that's the best you can get and it will run you several thousand dollars.

Sanyo PLC-XL50 is an XGA, 1500 ANSI lumens projector with an ultra short throw lens which gives an 80-inch diagonal screen at 3 inch distance. Ideal for corporate use with interactive whiteboards.this is the one I was looking at but there are quite a few out there and for a lot less than you say. My question wasnt really do they exist but has anyone used one

Hi Steve,

The Sanyo PLC-XL50 does have AMAZING short-throw capability, although an 80-in diagonal projection appears to require 3.5433071 inches!

The other thing in its favour, perhaps, is that it uses LCD rather than DLP technology - although DLP is considered to have a longer life span.

I've corresponded with him over a recent projector purchase and he clearly knows his stuff. If there is any alternative to consider, it might be the Epson PowerLite 400W, though I don't think it has the short-throw capability of the Sanyo -

...Actually, the ONLY thing that would dissuade me from buying the Sanyo PLC-XL50 myself is the fact that it weighs 16.8 lbs (7.5 kg) - which is about twice as heavy as most other current short-throws. But unless you plan to cart it round airports, who cares?

thanks for the input guys , I will certainly check out that review and as to the weight i only carry it from the carpark into the reception so I actually think the weight may be an advantage in relation to stability
