Linda,

I absolutely adore the first image The B&W and grain is perfect, and her look .... WOW

The other two images are also very nice; but the first one just took my breath away

I have to agree with Critina. The first one is excellent. Love the grain and the B&W touch. #2 and 3 are also very nice.

Hi Linda,

Like John and Cristina, I'm blown away with shot #1. There's almost a romantic feeling to the shot, and it's very well done. Almost think it could be a book cover for some romance novel.

But the other two shots appear somewhat blown out on my monitor. There's no detail in the white at all. And for me that spoils those shots. Sorry. How were they lit? How were they metered?

The model of course, is superb. Lucky you.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend...

Tim

I thought I was going to be unique by preferring the first shot - but I'm just part of the crowd.
It has a timeless, candid quality to it - like she's a celebrity caught in a "real" moment.

Hi Tim, Thank you. Yes one is my favorite also. Here is the revised version of 3. Is that better I get carried away with the processing. That is why it is good to post right. Linda

Thanks Daschund, I love the beach backdrop. I will let you borrow it if you want. This day was cold in the 60's.

Your repost of #3 is MUCH better! I like it! You mean it was just the processing that was the problem? The only thing I'd change now would be to make the color balance slightly warmer... somehow it looks cold to me and such a beautiful model and location says warm to me.

(Sorry, but I guess you want honest opinions!)

I love the pose, the composition... if only it was a bit warmer.

Well done!

Tim

OK. OK. Thank you for being honest. I need all of the eyes I can get. I agree. Glad you pointed that out to me. Thanks Tim. How is this. Be honest now .

Linda: On the first one the face, but mainly the eye looking into the camera is soft. On the others I like the posing but you have too much flash effect on them. Your subject is dressed in white, a highly reflective surface and you do not want to overdo it. You needto pay attention when you are shooting portraits and those eyes need to be in focus.
Fill-in flash, in cases like these, calls for flash exposure compensation of at least one plus 0.7 stop. This is easily achieved shooting in manual. You do not want to overpower the ambient light for a more natural effect.
It is obvious you did not use a tripod because the horizon is not even.

Thank you William for your critique. Yes I agree I need to learn the flash. Thank you for the tips.

I think I like the second repost better... but I'm going to have to actually download them so I can view them side by side. As it is now, the second one is on page two of the thread and the first is on page one so it's difficult to flip back and forth.

I do think there's still something missing though. And unfortunately I'm not experienced enough to be able to put my finger on it. Perhaps contrast? Perhaps a little more work with curves? I donno.

You are shooting RAW, aren't you?

I think the only thing missing on that shot is more experienced PS work. I think the model, the pose, etc. are great. This could be a really stellar image if processed right. If I didn't think you and I were probably at a similar PS experience level, I'd offer to take a stab at it, but it's unlikely I could do better than you. I'm willing to try though, if you want to send me the raw file (you've got my email).

So, what's the story on this shoot? Was it just you and Brianna? Or was she the model for one of your classes? What did you do for lighting? You don't have a Vagabond do you?

Oops, I just noticed your thread title... you spell it "Brinna" and I misspelled it above. Sorry about that.

If it was in the 60's and was cold, I wanted to know what are we having here on the low 20's! Now THAT is cold!

Tim,

I will send you the raw file and you can try no problem. Yes my PS work needs inprovement for sure. You spelled Brianna right. I spelled it wrong. . Thanks for the help. This was a class and she was one of the models. Just a flash on this.
