Hi everyone,
I wanted to let you know that the forum has a new "hide me" feature.
This is great whenever you wish to ignore someone. You can use this option to ignore up to 15 members.
To use the feature, just click on the "hide me" button located on the bottom of the post. This will hide the content and give you options to later "Show" ˇ "Unhide member" ˇ "Unhide all" and see yourˇ "Hidden list".
I hope this new tool will a valuable asset to assist in avoiding conflict and personal attacks on our boards.
Fred,
Not really sure what this is for. Does this mean someone can reply to something and not be identified? I've only been here a short time, but it seems like the "conflict" is what really helps members get their point across. I agree that the personal attacks are sometimes uncalled for (when they go off topic), but I have read many good points by those "personal attacks" and don't think they should be hidden.
If someone wants to say something, they say it! Don't hide behind a "button."
Ken

That is not the case at all. Posters won't hide behind their posts. Here is an example of how this would work: Let's say you have been around for quite a while and for whatever reason, you don't get along with Member X. Now with this new option, you have a choice to 'hide' member X's posts from 'your' view. This feature will not interfere with normal discussions. It's just there so you can avoid having to read posts from people that you know are going to annoy you.

So "member X" can read and reply to my post, but I don't see it? This (IMO) really defeats having to defend your point. If there are members that you always argue with, and you want to ignore, then why start a thread? Do you only want people to reply that agree with you? I think members have gained helpful information from other members that might "annoy them."

I understand your point, but this is when you just don't care what a person says or has to say. If you are in a debate, you would not want this feature. Or if you want to press a point, and I do sometimes, sometimes not, just don't use it. But if it gets to the point where you really are just not interested in a person's view regardless...then you can block it...I think that is how it works.
On the issue of quotes, guess you will see that...?
Some obsessive posters are consistent bandwidth wasters that just like the sound of their own voices...and some posters repeat the same silly phrase (see Canon forum) in their posts - over and over again ad-nauseum.
The 'hide' feature is a wonderful way to tune out the static.
Thanks FRED!!

Oh, well, at least I can hide myself. I was beginning to get on my nerves.
Nice feature, Fred! Any chance of upping the limit? Also, the Hidden List button might be better next to "Print Page" - or even moved to the Profile page - to reduce per-message buttonitis.

I didn't realize that!

...This probably should be fixed...However, hiding you from yourself could be fun!

More than 15...Hummm. Let's start with that and see if it's necessary.
Regarding the placement: I thought about that too and decided that the best place would be to move the hidden list link to the upper left corner with all the "My....".
It looks like this:
My posts ˇ My board posts ˇ My subscriptions ˇ My uploads ˇ My Hidden list
