Is everyone overlooking the fact that the MSRP is $2700??! Glad I got rid of the 1ds3 already...
It would appear that this is the same sensor that's in the 1ds3 and they're just pushing it. If not, why no mention of a new sensor in the press release?
Ah, my mistake: it does say new sensor...though why make it the exact same size as the 1ds3? Are they going to be offering sensor swaps for 1ds3 owners?

I think RG mentioned it as "street price". It may mean MSRP > $3K.

it's got to be a new one, they wouldn'y seriosuly make this big of a deal if it didn't have the new 50D-type sensor??

Oh no it is a FF 50D with HD movie. 3.9fps!
Ok VF went to 98%, but X-Sync is still a lousy 1/200, AF is unchanged!
Argh - IQ will be a given, but now where the specs I'd hoped. I'd given up 5MP and the ISO 12800 and 25600, for 5fps, 1/250 X-sync, and upgraded AF.
Probably get one as my landscape/macro/ camera but still means I'll be waiting for a new sports/action camera to replace my 1D II. Another 5 months for PMA to see if 1D III is replaced!
I don't know whether to laugh or cry. And only the one lens again.

PP - maybe that’s what Canon wants Nikon to be as they’re going to release something else before/@ Photokina?
Perhaps ... the street price point @ $2,699 leaves no room for a 3D - unless they are looking to kill the 1D# line and offer a $4,000 price reduction for the 1Ds3

The 24mm looks interesting if good enough and the same price as the old one (or even a little less - do I dare to dream?). At 21MP, you could afford to use your camera as a 1.6x crop second camera, too, meaning you could treat the lens as a 24 and 35 in one. That, for me, is the key advantage of the extra resolution - turning primes into zooms (within reason). You just have to bear the resolution in mind...

AF is unchanged!
The specs on the official Canon website say it's "9 pts Cross Type". That probably means the AF system will be similar to the one on the 40D/50D, plus the 6 assist points. It's possible the official website got that wrong though.

More or less as expected, keeping in line with the 5D I positioning:
(1) 40D AF system + assist points.
(2) 40D type body "sealing".
(4) 4 FPS is OK
I guess the competition has forced them to go for the 1DsMkIII sensor for which I don't care. Also, the same market pressures seem to have held their profit making zeal in check.....the US$ price is quite a bit lower than I have thought it would be.
All around seems like a good camera for those that need/want lottsa pixels and major ISO in a relatively economical and compact package.
I am much more interested in the 24L II. How much better can they make an already excellent lens ? Those who wait shall get their answer in a few short months.
The 50 f/1.2 focus flaw has hopefully thought some of us not to jump into buying Canon's newly introduced lenses.

Disappointed overall ... No 5fps, no AF improvement, no weather sealing. Want to know how much IQ improvement it will have over 5D. It seems I will stick to my 5D for a while.
