This was on nikonrumors.com and its an interesting read. I wouldn't mind the competetion and the choice of having that camera at my reach. Is it possible to use our FX/DX lenses on that or is physics against that possibility?
Can't wait to also hear about the 8 lenses they're going to release with it. Or maybe we just have to put a hole in the body cap and use it as a 41MP digital pin hole camera.

A few months back I heard they were going to develop a new MF rangefinder camera working with Leica. Both Leica and Nikon would have their own version of the camera and the mount would be Leica to take advantage of their existing lens lineup. Nikon would then build up their own collection of lenses as time went on.

Last I checked Sony R&D was not involved in the D3. That's Nikons baby.

It's now an established fact though. Canon is the dark side.
If Nikon decides to go MF format I'll say **** all y'all and jump on the Canon ship. With Mamiya, Hassy and Phase one, I think the current modular MF systems are doing a great job. Focus on 35mm, then worry about the rest when you make it perfect.

Well, this Canon user would be very excited to see a 40 megapixel Nikon rangefinder. Forget this brand loyalty nonsense. This could be a great product from a great company, and, assuming it's not too absurdly expensive, I would certainly be interested in using one.

At least get your facts straight about who developed the FX sensor.

If Sony's doing all the R&D, why don't the Sony versions match the IQ of the Nikon's? The A700 (which uses a variant of the D300 & D90 sensors) can't match the D300 in IQ, especially at high ISO's. Sure the Sensor is a Sony, but all the rest of the R&D is Nikon's.

D3's also a Nikon-designed sensor.
A sensor is useless without all the supporting chips doing image processing. You can have the best sensor on the planet but if your chipset around it doing all the image processing is crap you will get bad images. Which is what seems to happen with Sony and Nikon.
Just like with computer motherboards and memory that can kill the performance of a CPU, if they are badly designed.
