I've been watching the buy & sell forum for a lens. Has there been any discussion of creating an "email alert" feature when something is posted, similar to the function on eBay?
The real problem would be searching intelligently for a particular item. For example, one seller might list his item as 24-70L, while another might post Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM. I suppose wildcards could be used, but the results might still be "iffy". This even happens on eBay, where listings are somewhat standardized by offering pull-down menus when creating listings for items such as camera gear.
On eBay it's real easy, you just put something like "canon (24-70, 24-70L, 24-70mm)" and it matches any one. Here on FM it's a bit different, I think the syntax used to be something like "(24-70)|(24-70L)|(24-70mm)".
Thanks to those who have responded. Tmark, I don't necessarily always want to advertise that I'm ready to buy - but often want to see when someone posts a particular item. I think that the search terms could be pretty easy - as a Canon 24-70 in my mind would simply be (canon and "24-70").
