Good idea to have a "sticky" thread - nice work guardian ...
BTW, I asked this in the other thread, but haven't seen anything definitive on it, but when you are doing playback on the 40D, I'm pretty certain the camera is using a down-rezzed image, so it's very hard to determine if the focus was tack sharp. With the 50D's higher resolution screen (finally!), I'm hoping that when you full zoom in, you are seeing actual pixels from the hi-res original.

I love my 40D and am not planning on upgrading, but can someone explain what this feature does and why it would be helpful/in what situations?
You can adjust your camera's autofocus to each lens individually. If you have lenses that front or back focus a little bit, you can set the camera to compensate for this to a certain extent. Previously this was only available on 1 series bodies.
I wonder if there is a viewfinder issue with the 800mm f5.6?
You will have partly viewfinder vignetting which is a horizontal kind of vignetting because the mirror is 'too short' for focal lenghts above 600mm. The 1Ds mirror is bigger and has no issue like VF vignetting. Not really a big issue since most owners of an 800mm or above probably will have the means to buy themselves into the EOSfun of having a 1D series.

If the 50D is like past Canon cameras, and if you shoot RAW, then the camera uses a lower resolution JPEG embedded in the RAW file for previews. For JPEGs, it should use the actual full resolution image, but perhaps someone else can confirm this? I would think that RAW+JPEG would preview the full resolution JPEG.
According to the Rob Galbraith write-up, Canon is preparing a 50D white paper, which might answer this question.
I Canon's focus adjust works they just saved a ton of in-house costs generated at the service centers.
As for the lucky ones who never had a bad lens. I envy you. I have confirmation from canon on my bad luck.
A few words. Like LCD and Megapixel. Oh and camera! Anyone else weirded out a little by the poster behind them? For the first few seconds I thought it was the guy filming through the Live View haha.
I noticed that you can pre order the 50D on B & H's website for $1399. with expected arrival in October. I wonder if the 40D will drop more in price since I'd like to buy one. Anyone selling their's to upgrade to the 50D?
I think the 50D looks exciting. Also on a Canon press conference in Norway they said two more EOS cameras were coming this fall. Should be interesting..
