He does not claim better, but says it seems faster.... and this by someone who owns both 1D3 and 1Ds3 and make a living out of photographing birds....

Still it sound pretty good to me!

Faster to acquire focus ? Focus lock stability ? Sensitivity ? Accuracy ?
"Faster" alone does not mean heck of a lot to me.

My 40D in Servo AF is faster than my 20D when acquiring focus. Yet, 40D misfocuses more often.

Brutus is not the kind of photographer to be happy with fast misfocusing camera's. I am sure he means it is fast AND good. The 50D is gonna be EOSfun

But it will loose small items as they move of the centre point before they move to the next point - so not the ultimate sports camera (which the author goes on to aknowledge). But looking promising...

Anyway the new DIGIC 4 and AF unit algorithms are clealry not that shabby :P .... And the 50D AF sensor is thermally stable and very sensitive (lots of tests here). However for sports it really needs some extra helper focus points on which it apparetnly is even better (or so I am told)... So the whole DIGIC 4 based set of cameras this year and next year will be very interesting ;-)

I one-shot-läget ställde jag skärpan på min 300/2,8 IS på oändligt, riktade kameran på gruset tre meter bort och tryckte av. Jag upprepade proceduren med olika motiv nära närgränsen, och skärpan satt där blixtsnabbt varje gång. Förbluffande snabbt, måste jag tillägga.
Jag testade kameran även med zoomen 70-200/2,8 och lät den sedan ställa in fokuseringen kontinuerligt med båda objektiven, medan jag mycket snabbt panorerade nedåt från stranden 200 meter bort på andra sidan vattnet till vattenytan några meter framför mig. Fokus följde med hela tiden.

This is my translation:

Using one shot mode, I set the focus of my 300/2.8 IS to infinity, aimed the camera at the gravel 3 meters away and pressed the shutter button. Brutus is an excellent photographer (one of the best bird-photographers)and very capable of testing it.
But you should also know that he is paid by Canon to do advertising for this camera.

Wow, Brutus Östling, one of my all-time role models... The photos look really nice. Especially the microwave.

Regarding being paid, he says "Jag fick en ersättning för att vara med i produktfilmerna. Jag får emellertid ingen ersättning av Canon för att skriva detta." ("I received compensation for taking part in the commercials. I receive, however, no compensation from Canon to write this"), and I'm sure he values his reputation highly enough not to sell us BS...

I`m amazed to see that people can´t recognize that this is the exact same marketing strategy as Nikon did with the D3 launch.

Would you be amazed to hear that this is the same strategy the company I work in uses? And our competitors? Everyone does the same thing, if they can. They usually try to stay honest, though, because the competition would find them out and pounce on them...

So what's wrong of being paid for photography? Or would you imply that Brutus would change a critical opinion into smooth talk for Canon if he was not behind that opinion and give up all of his credibility? It seems to me that he found the real EOSfun in shooting that 50D and he shares it with us and he made some convincing pictures and a great story about the use of this camera in real life.
