How many of you have sold camera equipment on craigslist? Have you had any issues? I'm thinking of listing my 500 f4 IS locally. I'm prepared for the goofy scam emails Just wondering how people get paid for in person large $ transactions?
I buy and sell most of my stuff on Craigslist.
I pay cash and receive cash when buying/selling.
I find some great bargains on craigslist, only thing when buying is to try to buy something with a bit of warranty remaining on it. I.e. get a lens thats less than a year old.. Otherwise there may be some issue that you can't tell by looking.
Selling is a no brainer, just be prepared for lowball offers.. Meet in a public place, and accept cash--No fees, no shipping, no worries!
I agree with what epuja has stated. I've only bought things off of craigslist, but many of the basic principles apply both ways.
Always meet in a public place. If large amounts of cash/goods are being exchanged, be sure to let someone know who you are meeting and where. I've heard some sketchy stories, but who knows if they were true or not.
It never hurts to bring one or two people with you, if for nothing other than the company. Just use your common sense, and you should be fine.
I buy stuff off of craigslist....I try to meet up at a well populated place...Starbucks usually works...I always try the equipment out first before...and so far all the sellers have been good...
I have used Craigslist for buying and selling. Other than it being free, I find it convenient for both the buyer and the seller. It's much easier to make contact and then arrange to see the item, compared to eBay. The downside, it's addicting as heck.
I have to give Craigslist another bump here. I just scored a like new condition 100mm Macro for $350. Had maybe 2 dozen photos taken with it all indoors. Schwing!
Never bought off craigslist, but I have sold an Epson P-4000, a 24" Dell monitor, and a carbon fiber triathlon bike. I've gotten my share of low-ball offers, as well as a scam attempt whereby the buyer would send me a check for more than the asking price, etc. Just need to be careful...
ha, love the donut shop advice
I also sell/buy on cl on the time or atleast as often as my budget allows me or the closest needs cleaning. I second the idea of starbucks. It is actually the last place i picked up my last purchase(AV-1, TX, 50 1.8 and 50 1.4 for $35 bucks) and there was a cop hanging out in there. I guess he was one of those fancy ones.Totally an impulse buy but how could I pass that up? Less than ten bucks a piece.
