Interesting shot although I'm not a huge fan of shallow DOF. A lot of people love it, though, so don't go by my response. In looking at your EXIF data it's no wonder you are having problems getting sharp shots - if you are shooting at 1600 ISO with a Rebel you will get a huge amount of grain. It wasn't like you were shooting something nailed to the floor so I'm curious why you had to do it in such low light that you needed those settings. If you want a crisp shot, try going outside in the afternoon shade with your camera at 100 ISO and take shots at f11 or even higher. When it's darker, you may need a tripod to keep things steady but you'll be much happier with the results. I almost always use a tripod and even a cable release - even at fast shutter speeds. Given the difficult settings you gave yourself, I think the shot came out remarkably well.
